Description
On the north side of Blakely's Court Square stands the last remaining Confederate flag staff still standing in Georgia. The stalwart pole was hewn from a long leaf pine tree that grew one mile southwest of Blakely. It was hauled by oxen to the city and erected by Thomas Williams and others on May 16, 1861.
